Styrene Market Weekly Outlook (March 9, 2026)

I. Key Highlights

1. Mar 6: Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz stalled, causing export disruptions for several oil-producing countries and increasing supply risks, which pushed international crude oil prices higher.

  • NYMEX crude oil futures (April contract) rose USD 9.89/bbl to 90.90 USD/bbl, +12.21% from the previous period.
  • ICE Brent crude futures (May contract) increased USD 7.28/bbl to 92.69 USD/bbl, +8.52%.
  • China INE crude oil futures (2604 contract) fell 6.0 to 659.7 CNY/bbl, but rose 93.7 to 753.4 CNY/bbl in night trading.

Core Logic:
Rising geopolitical risks in the Middle East have driven crude oil prices sharply higher. The upstream raw material styrene has strengthened, creating both cost support and cost pressure for the market. PS demand is gradually improving, and market trading sentiment remains relatively firm with a consolidating upward trend.

III. Market Outlook

Styrene, the key raw material, continues to strengthen, providing solid cost support. Industry supply has increased, but inventory pressure remains manageable. Downstream factories are gradually resuming operations, and the overall supply–demand pressure is acceptable. In the short term, the PS market is expected to maintain a relatively firm and consolidating trend.
