<\/p>\nIn January-October, the combined output of polycarbonate (PC) in China refreshed a record high in recent five years, largely because of the unit startup and high capacity utilization rate caused by better profits.<\/p>\n
PC output added up to approximately 2.85 million tonnes in the past ten months of the year, representing a year-on-year rise of 8%. The monthly capacity utilization rate of PC was up by 4% year-on-year, averaging 81%.<\/p>\n

East China’s Zhangzhou CHIMEI Chemical brought online its 180,000 tonnes\/year PC unit in February this year, pushing up the total capacity to 3.99 million t\/y, and the capacity utilization rate increased after the startup of the unit.<\/p>\n
The integration level of China’s PC industry chain continued to rise in past days of the year. The upstream raw material sector suffered severe losses on the whole, while PC producers enjoyed better profits, significantly boosting the production enthusiasm of producers.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the output loss caused by maintenance settled at 165,800 tonnes during January-October, down by 7.63% year-on-year. Most producers including Pingmei Shenma Chemical and Shanghai Mitsubishi conducted pre-planned maintenance. Only a few producers such as Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical and Luxi Chemical undertook a brief shutdown.<\/p>\n

However, the capacity utilization rate of PC in the first half of the year was higher, thanks to the unit operation. That averaged 81.02% in January-June, but retreated to 79.09% during January-October, down by 1.9 percentage points year-on-year. From the second half of 2025 to 2026, there will be no newly-added PC units, and the operation of additional units in 2027 is also expected to be in the second half of that year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
